An elegant new B&B in the heart of the Val d’Orcia, in a completely renovated typical Tuscan stone farmhouse, just a stone’s throw from Pienza.

“Listen and you will see.” This is the advice of Podere Gonzaga, the recently opened bed and breakfast establishment near Pienza, the “ideal city” of the Renaissance, one of the most iconic places in Tuscany. The accurate renovation strongly desired by Giovanna and Michele has breathed new life into this typical Tuscan stone farmhouse.

Stumbling upon it by chance one sunny summer afternoon, they immediately fell in love with this house, captivated by its charm.

The story of Podere Gonzaga

It was built in the 1930s as a farmhouse for the sharecroppers of the Origo family, based on a design by the architect Pinsent. The land on which it stands was once owned by Pope Pius II, who gave it to the Gonzaga family of Mantua, which had given him hospitality when he was still a cardinal; the name given to the Podere probably comes from this.

The cottage had been abandoned in recent years, until it was rediscovered by Giovanna and Michele, a brilliant doctor and a musician. They transformed this stone and brick building into a place of beauty, rest and hospitality.

A respectful renovation

Icerm, our construction company, was proud and honored to have the opportunity to renovate the Podere Gonzaga. The architectural recovery work was carried out respecting rural traditions, with the addition of those details that would make a stay there even more comfortable.

The renovation was done on both the interior and the exterior, with fine finishing details and careful attention to the choice of construction materials, from stone to the old brick and roof tiles.

The musical soul of Podere Gonzaga

Not just a place for those who love peace and beauty, Podere Gonzaga hosts La Corte Musicale (“The Musical Court”), a cultural association affiliated with ARCI that offers the opportunity to participate in artistic events: jazz and classical music concerts, preview presentations of music albums and books, conferences, and much more.

The first program of musical events was held in August 2021 to inaugurate the new structure, under the guidance of artistic directors Michele Franzini (jazz music) and Orazio Sciortino (classical music).

The schedule of upcoming events is available on the Podere Gonzaga website >

The six rooms are inspired by this musical soul, and are named after great international musicians of all time, from Puccini to Miles Davis and the Beatles.
